Travelling is never fun when you are not feeling up to par. Especially when you have limited time to accomplish much. I feel like I saw it coming, but today I woke up with my body feeling weak, a headache lurking, and my stomach constantly turning on itself. Also, getting mosquito and bug bites don't help either on top of being bloated and lacking energy.
I actually had so much I wanted to plan today (quite ambitious really), but I just couldn't get myself up for it. Good thing a few wonderful ladies I've met at my hostel wanted to go to the Kek Lok Si Temple like I did, so that gave me a reason to not just bum around as I would have travel companions. These ladies are a few decades older than I am, but I really enjoy conversing with them, hearing their share of life knowledge, and observing their joy in being a traveller.
After brunch at Kaptain (delicious Indian food! I tried the roti and it was so much better than the one I had in KL) at the intersection of Lebuh Chulia and Lebuh King, we were on our way. So we caught the bus from Komtar (10min ish walk from central Georgetown) where there's a central bus station and took bus #204. The journey there was about 30 minutes and no sooner was I bobbing apples. I dislike when my mind has the energy to keep going, but my body just gives in. I guess I'm more tired than I've considered constantly being on the go lately.
The temple itself was pretty impressive on a hill, but maybe because I was 'templed out' that I didn't appreciate it as much as I would've. There was no admission fee except for paying 6 Ringgit ($2) for a roundtrip elevator ride to go to the highest point with the money going towards renovations if you choose to. Alternatively, I believe you can buy a one way ticket and walk down, but the trek is super steep. I didn't care too much about exploring the temple, but the view from the top was really nice as you can sightsee Penang from the central location and I really enjoyed that.

Wandering around made me aware that once the sun sets ~7pm, most food carts and hawker stalls come out at the corner of Lebuh Kimberley (aka Chinese Food Street) and even Lebuh Chuliah just right outside my hostel area. I wish I knew earlier as I wouldn't have gone to Red Garden again, but it just comes to show the abundance of choices Penang has to offer. My favourites so far: Asam Laksa, Roti, Chaw Koey Taow, Curry Mee, and I have yet to try Cendol (Malay shaved ice), but I'm sure I will like it once I try it (photos below are prawn mee (left) and oyster omelette (right). Overall, food is so much better here than in KL and I'm realizing most things I've tried in KL was a knockoff version of the real deal in Penang.
